Firewall Completely Down

Change Review

  • Were there recent firmware or configuration updates?
  • Revert changes if they correlate with instability.

Diagnostic Actions

  1. Test ICMP reachability across all management/data interfaces.
  2. Attempt WebUI and SSH access from different subnets.
  3. Test InControl access if in use.
  4. Connect directly via console.
  5. Review HA cluster status:
    • Is the issue isolated to one node or both?
    • Are any nodes accessible?
  6. Inspect physical indicators (LEDs, fans, PSU).
  7. Check switch logs for link activity or port flapping.

Recovery Milestones

  • Firewall is operational and passing traffic.
  • Reverting recent changes restores stability.
  • Root cause is confirmed to be external (e.g., power failure or switch issue).
